MOUNT KILIMANJARO
Mount Kilimanjaro is an African epic which allows you to summit the “Roof of Africa” at Uhuru Peak (5895m) and experience the majesty of the highest volcano outside South America. Located in northern Tanzania, on the eastern side of the African Rift Valley, Mount Kilimanjaro rises 5km above a base which is 60km in diameter.
The sight of the permanent snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro provides a constant source of inspiration when viewed from the vast plains. It is also a natural focus for any trekker keen to summit the highest peak in Africa. While the ascent does not require any technical climbing, the trails are demanding and a sound level of fitness and an ability to acclimatise are essential prerequisites before attempting the summit. Your time on the mountain will be six nights and seven days therefore ensuring maximum acclimatisation. From the alluring summit of Uhuru Peak on day six, we will have amazing 360-degree views of the surrounding plains.
Despite being 3 degrees south of the equator, Mount Kilimanjaro has numerous glaciers. Glaciers have been an awesome force in shaping Mount Kilimanjaro. Pictures taken in 1912 compared to the present day demonstrate that Mount Kilimanjaro has lost in-excess of 75% of its ice cover, although the impressive ice cliffs on the northern and eastern side remain, as do glaciers on the south and south western flanks. At projected rates the ice could be lost forever by 2020.
The cultural experience and physical challenge you will encounter will be incredibly rewarding. Having said this, Mount Kilimanjaro is, by definition, an extreme mountaineering environment where you are susceptible to acute mountain sickness. Who you travel with and how you travel are imperative to YOUR safety and success on this mountain.

YOUR PREPARATION – WE STAY WITH YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY
Your physical and psychological preparation is critical to your success. We view participant’s physical preparation as our responsibility, no matter where they are located in Australia or abroad.
We fully train and prepare each person to Summit Mt Kilimanjaro and our eight-week pre-event training program is included in the cost of the program. During the supervised training, we consult with each person to decide on the type and size of pack they carry, if at all, personal porter requirements and any other needs for their personal preparation.
We have taken many trekkers of all ages to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, many of whom would never have had the opportunity to complete this challenge, let alone finish it safely and comfortably without our pre-event training. Just ask John Singleton and Roy Masters who stood on the summit with us at over 70 year of age. With the correct training and preparation, anything is possible. Adventure Excellence will provide a remotely supervised eight-week Remote Training Program for all participants.
The program will incorporate:
- Detailed weekly gym training sessions

TESTIMONIALS
“Kilimanjaro is a challenge. To make it there and back with apparent ease is a tribute to the experience, planning and preparation that makes this team a delight to trust.”
Ted, Retired, Sydney, Australia
“Our objectives in climbing Mt Kilimanjaro were to raise $1 million for the kids, to give our guests the experience of a lifetime, and to get everyone home safely. We exceeded those expectations in every respect. Everyone said it was the best, and one of the hardest, things they’ve ever done. We couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome …”
Paul, CEO, Sydney, Australia
“An incredible human caravan of colour, theatre and movement in a remote part of the world for a great cause underpinned by exemplary resource planning, logistics management, discipline, and health professionals who understood the narrow gap between adventure and misadventure and ensured, by making the hard calls early, that we had “adventure”.
Paul, Chairman and Founder, Sydney, Australia
